PTL Coach Training

Program Overview

The Powerful Teaching and Learning (PTL) Certification Program is designed to build a mastery of coaching and mentoring skills uniquely structured for the educational setting.

The PTL Coach Training Institute is a three-month advanced learning experience especially designed to meet the needs of those who are currently, or are planning on becoming, educational coaches in all content areas and for those in leadership roles with a focus on instruction or school improvement. The process imbeds theoretical understanding and application of adult learning needs with an intrinsic understanding and ability to empower others to apply Powerful Teaching and Learning in the classroom through coaching. Participants develop skills necessary to facilitate adult human development and learn fundamental coaching skills for working successfully with groups and adults. They also examine the latest research and best classroom practices for improving student achievement. The program functions as a statewide learning organization, creating a network of highly skilled, competent coaches.

When the Powerful Teaching and Learning coaching model is applied in the educational setting by coaches, teachers discover new sustainable strategies for improving teaching and empowering all students to be successful learners.

The Powerful Teaching and Learning Coach Training Institute provides educational coaches, TOSAs (Teachers on Special Assignment), and mentors with the tools and strategies to empower others to improve their teaching.

Learning Process

Three two-day intensive training sessions are the foundation of the learning process. The institute training days integrate dynamic presentations with small-group intensive coaching and practice sessions. The training methods used in the academy model Powerful Teaching and Learning practices. Participants will work in large and small groups as well as working individually. The structure requires participants to reflect on and apply new learning encouraging them to stretch as adult professional learners. Feedback and regular practice for implementation of essential skills are built into the training day and the activities and assignments in between.

In between the two-day intensives, participants work on applying new learning to their work and aligning the work to the training requirements.
