One-on-One Instructional Coaching

How it Works

Working with an instructional coach can yield amazing results. Together, you'll identify and articulate your goals, set clear targets and develop practical plans for hitting them. Your instructional coach will help you refine and hone your skill to take your teaching to new levels.

Among other strategies, coaches will spend time observing lessons, planning lessons, looking at student evidence and modeling lessons. This is a completely self-directed form of professional development that puts the teacher in charge of their learning and needs. All relationships with our coaches are confidential. STAR Protocol Coaching

How it Works

Let one of our Instructional Coaches lead your team of teachers (3 or 4 per team) on a day of observations using the STAR Protocol to reflect on their own practice, develop stronger team bonds, and begin to identify the essential elements of Powerful Teaching and Learning - the teaching strategies research has shown to to improve teaching and learning and raise student achievement levels.

Janet Steele, M.A.

Janet Steele joined the Powerful Teaching and Learning Group in 2006. She has served as an educator and professional development leader for 27 years. Throughout her career, Janet has presented nationally and internationally on educational issues. Her honors include the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award, the Christa McAuliffe Washington State Excellence in Education Award, and Phi Kappa Phi Academic Honorary. ›› Full bio

Heather Fox

Heather Fox brings to the Powerful Teaching Group fifteen years of instructional excellence centered on the progressive implementation of student activities that support a powerful learning environment. Heather has trained as a coach with the Northwest Educational Coaching Network (NWECN) in using the STAR Protocol as developed by the BERC Group. She has been a mentor teacher and participated in Washington State University’s Cooperating Teacher Program.  ›› Full bio

Arthur Dolan, M.Ed.

Arthur brings more than 30 years of classroom experience to our organization. He has taught middle school and high school science for 27 years in the Spokane Public Schools where he was recognized as a “Distinguished Teacher”. The Washington State Science Teachers Association named him “Eastern Washington Middle School Science Teacher of the Year” in 1989. His classroom achievements, as well as his curriculum development for the NASSP study skills program, bring rich experience and depth to the Powerful Teaching and Learning staff.  ›› Full bio

Our Rates

Both one-on-one coaching and STAR protocol coaching are $850 per day. Our coaches can work with up to four teachers individually in a single day and STAR Protocol coaching is performed with small groups of 3 or 4 teachers per team. Contact us to set up dates and times.
