About Us

The Powerful Teaching and Learning Group believes that meaningful educational change is possible when educators are empowered with the necessary skills and strategies to raise achievement levels for all students. PTL provides comprehensive training, coaching and solutions for K-12 educators wanting to develop teaching practices that increase the level of instructional quality and result in measurable student success. Powerful Teaching and Learning is defined as the practice of rigorous application of focused teaching, coaching and assessment for educators.

PTL uses a research based tool for teachers that provides a clear target for teaching practices that are in alignment with education reform and raising student achievement. Depending on the unique needs and challenges of each site, customized ongoing support is provided in the form of additional coaching and training.

Powerful Teaching and Learning refers to specific and targeted teaching practices and learning methods that raise achievement for all students including those who have historically not been successful in school.

Who is the Powerful Teaching and Learning Group?

The Powerful Teaching and Learning Group is comprised of a dedicated leadership team of highly skilled and experienced educators who are committed to raising achievement levels for all students, regardless of social barriers students may face related to race, gender or economic status. The members of the group work with schools and districts to embed teaching best-practices and to align stake-holders at every level towards the shared goal of raising student achievement.

The members of the Powerful Teaching and Learning Group are committed to assisting schools in making a difference for all students. They train teachers, work with principals, and provide expertise and guidance in school improvement planning. Members of PTL have served as teachers, principals, school board members, professional development directors and university faculty.

As part of these efforts to empower educators and bring lasting, positive change to schools, the Powerful Teaching and Learning Group acts in partnership with The BERC Group, a nationally recognized organization that provides evaluation, research and consulting services. The two organizations collaborate on research, and both provide information and support to educators. While The BERC Group conducts intensive, in-depth reviews on school conditions and performance, The Powerful Teaching and Learning Group’s role is to provide ongoing training and coaching related to the STAR Classroom Observation Protocol. By making sure that schools and districts know how to effectively implement the STAR Classroom Observation Protocol, PTL ensures that they are able to increase the levels of Powerful Teaching and Learning in the classroom to reach more students in a more meaningful and impactful way.
